Dementia Choir

Raising awareness of Dementia throughout Denbighshire

Singing has been proven to be hugely beneficial to those living with Dementia. The benefits are both physical and psychological. It's an aerobic activity that anyone can do regardless of ability. It increases oxygenation in the bloodstream and uses major muscle groups abdomen, diaphragm and lungs. Using breath control and vocal warmup exercises, it releases chemicals in the body serotonin and dopamine which are really good stress busters. It can have a direct effect on pain, mood and memory. It can improve your physical and mental health It's a natural anti-depressant and can strengthen our immune systems. Helps people to form social bonds. It's a fun, enjoyable energising activity, which is great therapy for the soul.

We have received a grant for £2000 from Dementia Aware fund to raise awareness throughout Denbigh and are supported by Dementia Friendly Denbigh. We facilitated a choir twice a month for those living with Dementia, their families and carers, at the Eirianfa Community Centre on Fridays 12.30-2pm and visit local care facilities once a month. 2022
